‘Low Glow’ is a dwarf cultivar of Japanese Red pine that forms a dense, compact, rounded mound of foliage to 3 to 4 feet tall over the first 10 years. It is very slow growing (about 3 to 5 inches per year). Japanese Red pine is noted for its irregular but frequently graceful form and its orange-red bark. Bright green needles (to 3 to 5 inches long) appear in bundles of two. Oval to oblong cones (to 2 inches long) are often plentiful.
Grow in well-drained soils in full sun. Totlerates a wide range of soil types, as long as it is well-drained. Tolerates some light afternoon shade, particularly in hot summer climates. Avoid shearing, as its natural form is fairly uniform and well-rounded.
