Water Saving Tip:

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.

Similar in appearance to E. umbellatum, the leaves on James' buckwheat are more cottony and do not turn red in the fall, and the flower heads are branched. this perennial is mat-forming, growing less than 6 inches tall but with a spread of up to 24 inches. Leaves are green and oval to oblong, and persistent. Clusters of bright yellow flowers bloom June to November. A Utah native.
Grow in full sun and well drained soil. Adaptive to soil types, as long as they are well drained. Cut back flower stalks in late winter. Attracts bees and other beneficial insects.
