Water Saving Tip:

Replace turf with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs. If you have areas where no one uses the grass, patches that do not grow well, or a turf area too small to water without runoff, consider replacing the turf with water-efficient landscaping.

A reliable and hardy Red Maple cultivar, Red Sunset® was developed by J. Frank Schmidt and Son Co. It’s a vigorous growing tree with a strong and symmetrical branching pattern. Lustrous, glossy green summer foliage changes to brilliant shades of red and orange-red in the fall. Grows 40 to 45 feet tall and 25 to 35 feet wide, with a broadly oval habit. Like other red maples, Red Sundset produces a tiny red spring flower that is followed by winged seedpods called sumara.
Grow in nearly any soil as long as it is well drained. Prefers loamy soils. Grows in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. When planted in lawns that are over watered, it may become shallow rooted.
