‘Autumn Magic’ is a cultivar that is distinguished from the species by having a denser, tigher form, larger fruit, and superior fall color. White spring flowers are followers by clusters of blue-black fruit that ripen in the autumn, but persist through the winter months, providing excellent forage to migrating birds like waxwing, finches, and wrens. A wonderful shrub for the foundation, a hedge, or to liven up the shrub border. Beautiful with larger ornamental grasses. Grows 3 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 7 feet wide.
Grow in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Tolerant of wide range of soils, including both dry and boggy soils. Best fruit production occurs in full sun. Spreads by root suckers to form colonies, though it does so slowly and is not aggressive. Rarely requires pruning; selectively remove branches to control height (see Guides).
