Water Saving Tip:

Even though it's hot, your lawn only needs to be watered twice a week to stay healthy.

And don't water the whole lawn for a brown spot—drag out a hose.

  • Notes

This beautiful garden tree is small, deciduous, and well suited to small spaces, entries, patios, and groupings. It has a rounded crown, low branching habit and grows about 12 to 18 feet tall and wide. Petite purple-red flowers appear in late winter in bare branches or reddish-brown bark. Leaves emerge later, pink-tinged and heart-shaped, eventually turning a lustrous deep green. Fall color is yellow.
Plant in rich, well-drained soil. Not suitable for sandy soils. Will grow in sun to light shade; watering recommendation is for full sun. See guides for planting instructions. Some forms will have pea-like seed pods after flowering, providing winter interest. Also listed as C. canadensis v. texensis 'Oklahoma.'
